@sherrirae13: Belle has a few more days before she is put on the other side of the fence with the calves, Mary Lou and Bennett. She is 6 1/2 months and it’s time for her to wean - fence line wean. I think Scarlett is going to be sad but Belle will be right where she can see her. Scarlett mourned hard when she miscarried and again when a calf died being stuck with a shoulder back in the birth canal. She had started weaning her 2 bull calves herself when we pulled them at 6 months because she gets thin even with supplemental feedings. We fence line weaned Bonnie Blue and Scarlett did good. They are back together. Belle will be back with Scarlett also after she completely stops wanting to nurse! Belle is a little pig! She has been eating grain for months and still nurses Scarlett aggressively. Scarlett is pregnant again and has to be reconditioned and make it through this brutal heat coming this summer. Most cattlemen would cull Scarlett because she is not heat tolerant and stays in front of a cool misting fan to slow her breathing. But, it works and she stays comfortable. She is a pet cow so any calf is just a bonus for us! #weaning #cow #Hereford #Belle #calf
