@dralexis_md: “But you don’t look sick.” “You’re too young for arthritis.” “Maybe it’s just stress.” “Your labs are normal, so you’re fine.” If you live with autoimmune disease, chances are you’ve heard at least one of these. The reality is that many autoimmune diseases are invisible. Symptoms like pain, fatigue, brain fog, stiffness, and inflammation aren’t always obvious to the people around you; but that doesn’t make them any less real. You shouldn’t have to prove you’re sick to deserve support. Which one have you heard the most? 👇 Or tell me the one I missed. #AutoimmuneDisease #Lupus #RheumatoidArthritis #InvisibleIllness #ChronicIllness
Do you find it’s common for someone with nr-axSpA to also have fibromyalgia? I don’t really feel like I have fibro, the few symptoms I do have are also symptoms of AS. But the NP to my doctor tried to tell me they think I have fibro, I pushed and said those symptoms are also symptoms of AS so how do you differentiate? She didn’t offer much of an explanation other than I could have both.

I got told to go to therapy (mental therapy) bc there’s an anxiety diagnosis in my chart before a provider did anything for me. I got a second opinion from a doctor who listened and they said it may be arthritis in my spine and I needed to get an mri!

Having a support system that believes you is the most important thing (IMO). A calm life doesn’t cure but boy does it help immensely. Take care of yourself and those who you choose to keep around. This is a lifelong experience. Support while navigating an autoimmune disease can make life much more bearable.
