For the people in the comments saying "School doesn't prepare you for the real world", it used to before we had to placate parents to ensure we keep outr funding. The education system has issues, but learning to become a decent human starts at home.

I noticed my daughter acting more spoiled and promptly gave her a consequence and an opportunity for redemption within a certain time frame while explaining it all clearly. We have not had the same issue again, its so simple 😭

Discipline your kids. Children don't learn responsibility, respect, or accountability when parents focus solely on being their friend. I'd rather my child grow into a decent, considerate human being, even if they resent some of my parenting decisions, than become someone who treats others poorly because they were never taught boundaries, consequences, and respect. Parenting isn't about being your child's best friend; it's about preparing them to be a good person.

Growing up my parents were not my “friend” they love supported and we had fun. Today at 32 they are my biggest supporter and friends! But they are still my parents and check me when needed

My mom is a teacher and we have this conversation so often. As a teen I never understood her rules but as an adult and a mother I appreciate the protection and guidance that I absolutely needed at that age. Kids need rules and boundaries and especially accountability for their actions

One thing I have never had to worry about with my sons in middle and high school was them needing to be disciplined at school. I laid the groundwork when they were younger because I didn’t want to be trying to discipline 6 foot tall teen boys, much easier to teach them when they’re small. That’s not to say they’re perfect angels who do no wrong, but they know where the boundaries are and don’t typically cross them.
