i had to find a new group after they refused to let me play each game and then denied they were targeting me unfairly. i was still somewhat new to the game and the gas lighting was so strong cause i only played with them and it made me feel like i was just building terrible decks (which could still be true) and just couldn't play the game. i started to play at the LGS near me and it became so obvious that they were ganging up on me regardless who i ran and whenever i could actually let my deck do what the deck wanted to do even if it wouldn't win me the game. i was able to resolve more spells, properly interact with one player without another preventing me, and actually felt i was having a better time playing with randoms then the "friends" i thought i had. TL;DR: newbies don't need to feel afraid with playing with randoms

I’m 100% pro proxy but the arms race can triple in speed if you don’t have an agreement with your friends ahead of time to not get silly with it.

The solution is to bring the silly yourself. You don't have to play to win every time, you can also play to creat a machine that makes goat tokens on every player's turn.

I started playing last year and started playing with some friends. my precon was nothing to their years of experience. my first 4 decks I built were ignored. then I started studying and building the stringedt most powerful decks I could afford!

my playgroup is still going strong like this lol, i have some power builds like shorikai control and dina combo, but i really love playing the counter blitz precon and hitting for 25 unblockable damage and seeing the panic in their eyes because why is a precon doing that

yeah I'm going back to board games :p for the price of one precon, 4 people can play for hours. each player buys a game now you have 4 games to play. the board game puts all players into the same bracket automatically 😳
