here's the Echo myth: Echo was a beautiful nymph with a magnificent voice, but she had a habit of talking too much. When Hera searched for her husband, Zeus, Echo deliberately stalled the goddess with endless chatter so Zeus's other lovers could escape. As punishment, Hera took away Echo's voice, leaving her only able to repeat the final syllables of what others said to her. One day, Echo saw the exceptionally handsome hunter Narcissus wandering the woods. She fell deeply in love and followed him. When Narcissus realized someone was trailing him, he shouted, "Who's here?" Echo could only reply, "Here!" and emerged from the trees to embrace him. Narcissus rejected her advances, telling her to leave him alone. Echo retreated into the forest, humiliated and heartbroken. Echo spent the rest of her days wandering lonely glens, hiding in caves, and wasting away from grief until nothing was left of her but her voice. To punish Narcissus for his cruelty, the goddess Nemesis cursed him to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. He, too, wasted away staring at himself, transforming into the narcissus flower. Because of her curse, whenever you call out in a cave or an open canyon, it is said to be Echo's voice answering you back.
