i think people need to be less objective about ratings. "its not as good as everyones making it out to be" to YOU. but other peoples ratings aren't contingent on what you think. also, semantics, but im pretty sure its not considered a monkey's paw because the actual wish willow is not cursed, baron's wish is. u had some good points here though, and i agree that the director has some great potential!

I think that's the whole point, it's a very classic story but it's the way it's delivered that makes it special. The cringe comedy was very intentional, it's okay if you didn't like it but it was not poor script writing or acting. And music in a horror movie is literally to build tension and then release it. I think that it wasn't for you and that's okay, but it is absolutely deserving of the praise it's getting. Maybe something more like Nope by Jordan Peele is more your vibe

Really your hung up on the simple premise? But not the amazing execution, re tellings?! It's an original story lol simple premise but curry put his twist on it and pulled it off soo well hence it's made More money every single weekend, only other movie to do that is ET

I saved this for after watching the movie and while I completely agree with your criticism, most of the reasons you didn't like it are the reasons I did like it. The music thing is my biggest gripe for the movie lol, but as a story influenced by the monkey's paw I really enjoyed it, mainly because when I read the short story I was hoping for something creepier, mainly because of how my lit teacher at the time sold the story to us, and this movie scratched that itch. And the uncomfortable dialogue felt to me at least a byproduct of the director's background in sketch comedy, it has uncomfortable comedy sketch written all over it and I ate it up, but I get it's not everyone's cup of tea. Honestly I agree with you, I enjoyed it a lot, but it's not as good as everyone says it is

its not abt the genre being repeated that makes it good or liked tho. what makes the movie so good is that for once a gen z representation in film is actually accurate. even when it comes to the tiktok music, is it cringe- yes, but thats what makes it so realistic. I can actually see these characters listening to the music, or wearing the clothes they wore. As for being a repeated trope- no story at this point can ever be an original trope atp every thing in literature derives from something else

imo it waaaaas that good. i thought the beginning was so weak and i immediately thought i wouldn’t like it but nikki reallyyyyyyy sold me. the premise might be weak but its a fun indie movie that got popular. well deserved imo. u don’t have to like everything that’s popular

I think a lot of people went into tiis movie with a happy and lightheaded approach only seeing trailers and stuff or just seeing a poster and reading a brief description of the movie not watching it thinking about themes or story or what the movie is saying/ portraying and then coming out of it thinking it was mediocre or bad. But even the people that do come out only knowing a handful of things and still know what it was about and admits they prolly dont get the whole thing and that’s fine not everyone is a movie critic or whatever.

I would disagree. The thing about this movie is that the OWW is not necessarily evil, and it's more of the wish itself that is evil, which I feel makes it a more interesting take on the concept. also a movie redoing a concept doesn't make it any less good. sure doesn't make it as original but doesn't make the movie any less good
