@theamishwaytt: Things YOU Didn't Know About the Amish – Part 13 One of the most fascinating aspects of Amish worship is their church songs. The Amish sing from a hymnbook called the Ausbund, first published in 1564. This remarkable book is considered the oldest continuously used Protestant hymnal in the world and remains a central part of Amish church services today. The Amish nearly disappeared in parts of North America during the 1700s and early 1800s due to migration, assimilation, and slow population growth. For example, Amish settlers arrived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in the 1720s, yet by around 1870 their population was still only a few hundred people. Today, the story is very different. The Amish population is growing rapidly, fueled by large families and high retention rates among young adults. Researchers estimate the Amish population doubles approximately every 18 to 20 years. If current trends continue, the Amish population is expected to surpass 500,000 people by the early 2030s. From centuries-old church songs to one of the fastest-growing communities in North America, the Amish continue to preserve traditions that have endured for generations. #AmishFacts #AmishHistory #ChurchSongs #Ausbund #lancasterpa
