This is our happy Hailey She's just 2 years old and arrived at the shelter on December 13th. We don't know where she came from or what her life looked like before this, but we're starting to learn who she is and she's really special. It’s really unfortunate her family never came to claim her. Recap of her assessment: From the moment she came out of her kennel, Hailey was gentle and easy. She walked nicely on leash, happily accepted her collar, and immediately leaned into affection. She seeks out people, jumps up for hugs, and clearly feels safest when she's close to her human. If there's attention to be had, she wants to be right there soaking it in. When she was introduced to other dogs, you could tell she was unsure. Not aggressive …..just overwhelmed. This place is loud, unfamiliar, and full of strangers, and Hailey is still trying to figure it all out. She stayed neutral, needed guidance, and often chose people over dogs, checking back in with her handler for reassurance. Even when she felt tense, she was responsive, redirectable, and able to coexist. What really stands out about Hailey is that she prefers connection. She wants to feel chosen by people She's affectionate, people oriented, medium energy, and would thrive with someone who wants a true companion, basically a dog who follows you from room to room, sits close, and makes you feel less alone just by being there. (Shelter is suggesting she goes to a home with no other dogs at this time) She's waiting at the Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California. Walk ins are welcome. No appointment necessary.
