MISTAKE NO. 7/10 ✶ Not adding a feedback board to my app Getting user feedback is one of the hardest parts of building an app. I could send 100 emails asking for feedback and get maybe two actual responses. For my first apps, I was basically building whatever I thought people wanted. The biggest hack for me has been adding a public feedback board to my apps. People can leave suggestions, see what everyone else has asked for, and upvote the things they want me to build. At first, I didn’t understand why people kept coming back to my boards and taking the time to upvote things. Then I realized UserJot keeps pulling them back in. I’m using UserJot for the feedback board right now. Not sponsored, by the way. It sends weekly emails that surface new requests and give users a reason to come back and vote. That means people don’t have to remember the feedback board exists. The email brings them back, shows them what other users want, and gives them an easy way to vote. To my surprise, this has worked incredibly well. I have hundreds of suggestions across my boards, and a lot of individual requests have gotten over 100 upvotes. Photo tracking is probably the best example. I never would’ve thought to build it. It got around 100 upvotes, so I built it, and now over half of Amy users use it. I still decide what actually fits the app, but the board lets me see what people care about before I spend weeks building something. I’m never launching another app without one.
