I’m American, living in southern England, and this winter I took a trip to Scotland. EVERYONE assumed I’d fly. I was like nah I’m taking the train. “That’s like 10 hours!” Yeah with a nice view, snacks, and someone else driving 👍

I still remember the post a Brit made about how he never got to see his father any more because he’d moved to a different country and it was too far to travel. They were 45 minutes apart.

when I lived in the UK I knew someone who told me they hadn't realized the US was so big until they visited. I asked them if they'd ever seen a map or a globe and they said they thought we exaggerated the size of the US on maps for our ego

2 hours can definitely be considered both a long drive and a short trip, but honestly that's wholly dependent on the context of the drive. 2 hours through Ohio? Long drive. 2 hours through the Appalachian mountains? Short trip (and gorgeous)

I have friends in England who don't regularly see their parents because they live 30 minutes away. I drive 30 minutes to go to the grocery store.

I once read a book that took place in the UK and the two main characters were convinced they'd never make it long term because one of them got into Oxford and the other got into Cambridge, and if they stayed together they'd NEVER see each other. I looked it up, and it's maybe a 2hr drive between the two. like babe, NEVER?? you'd NEVER be able to take a train for a weekend trip to see your man??

we had a new professor from out of the US starting and he ended up starting a few weeks late. Apparently, he got to Florida and thought he'd drive a few hours to San Bernardino California. he didn't realize it was 2500 miles away
