I feel like when I watch a movie and I call the character by their actors name, it’s not the best. When I watch a movie with Ryan gosling, I’m not thinking “that’s Ryan Gosling”, I’m thinking that’s Holland March or Ryland Grace, he really is an outstanding actor.

I really like that he gives his characters small quirks that are incredibly unique to the characters. Besides the funny way he maneuvers with his glasses in Project Hail Mary, amongst other things, he gives Lars the quirk of blinking really hard in Lars and the Real Girl, which could be interpreted as a tic stemming from a trauma response. In Drive he’s very subtle with his expressions because Driver isn’t that much of an outwardly expressive guy, he conveys a lot with the way he sets his face, his brows, and his eyes, not to mention the toothpicks as a fidget. In The Nice Guys, besides his outward smoking and drinking, he also communicates with his eyes, and the kind of cowardice he gives Holland is very crucial to his character. He genuinely getting really into his characters, he doesn’t go into a role just to play himself as himself. 😭

Heavily agree. I never see this sort of fandom explosion happen with other actors where his characters are headcannoned with his other characters, it’s just proof that he completely disappears into a role. When I first wrote for Coltland i could picture the two of them in my head and it didn’t feel off at all because they feel like entirely separate people without an actor behind them. Not to mention his other wide range roles like Ken, Lars, Court, Driver etc! He’s amazing!

He’s such a good actor that I forget that Lars & Driver are the same man as Ryland & Colt. Like I look at them during some of the edits and my brain doesn’t register them all as Gosling first, it registers them as the distinct characters

Absolutely. He’s literally the only celebrity I stan cuz of his fcking fantabulous acting. He’s funny asf as fuck afff but he’s also a MASTER at emotionally compelling acting. I genuinely care for his characters so much. They’re so dear to me, I don’t play about them, they’re literally my close and personal friends. Then there’s the ‘he’s literally me’ thing that’s proof of SO many people kinning his characters cuz he relates and resonates on a personal level. That’s a SSS class actor right there.

oh genuinely. i was watching Lars and the Real Girl a few days ago and i GENUINELY kept forgetting he was playing Lars and that I was watching it for him as an actor because i was just looking at the screen and seeing Lars as a person and as a character every time he came onto my screen not Ryan Gosling playing Lars
