@4_everkayjay: He spent 24 hours in a wheelchair, and his experience will either shock you or leave you feeling completely unsurprised. As a full time wheelchair user, I wasn’t shocked at all #wheelchairuser #disabilitytiktok
As a wheelchair user I actually approve of this concept! I like hwo they did it so physios would be understanding which is incredible as most of us see a physio or EP so then he can his class mates can better help treat us wheelchair users

we used to make the admin at my college take a wheel chair tour of campus to see where the access problems were.

I also really appreciate him acknowledging the differences and privileges he holds and still showing how difficult it is, if he's alone and gets stuck in a corner he's probably not going to burst into tears at a frustration and a feeling of helplessness cuz he knows tomorrow he'll be walking again but know he'll have a better understanding of why people might feel that way

As a disabled person, I think he did a good job explaining the challenges he faced and even the fact that he had advantages during the 24 hours. Hoping it's something he keeps within him as his study and career progresses 💙

last year I was in a wheelchair for 2 months after a massive hip surgery. that shit is hard. mostly because of how inaccessible the world is. like why I gotta go up a set of stairs to reach the handicap button to open the door???

Love when programs do things like this. My special education program has us create our own communication system and live 24 hrs as someone non-verbal. I used a simple PECS system that super common and was frustrated all the time. Definitely changed my view on working on daily communication.

When I go to a place that’s inaccessible I feel so bad and I always advocate. I wish the world could accommodate people living with disabilities

I think more people need to do this! not enough people have empathy for wheelchair users or understand what they have to go through on a daily basis this is great for better understanding

I'm a ambulatory wheel chair user and my physical therapist was actually talking about this the other day. He was open about how challenging it was but that it was also very eye opening and he asked me questions about my own experience and we actually had a really nice conversation about it. It made me realize it was the first time since becoming chronically ill/disabled (it'll be a year in July) where I had actually talked to someone outside my husband about what it was like and it was theraputic.

this would be so eye opening. if i had the opportunity, i would try it for 24 hours because i wanna be a social worker and this will help me understand others perspective and experience better than reading

in elementary school, we had a day where we would learn what it's like to be blind, in a wheelchair etc and i'm very grateful for it. also my late father was very physically disabled, so growing up i was pretty aware of that kinda stuff

Omg- that actually sounds like something I want to try- I’m going to be going into general medicine, but I don’t know if we’ll be doing anything like this, so I think it would be a great learning moment for me to try this so I can understand what they have to go through. I also have access to several wheelchairs, so this is something I could realistically try :D

We had to do this in my grade 6 class as a project after reading a book about a wheelchair user who played basketball. I thought it was a great experiment and taught us a lot at such a young age.

At my local TAFE I had someone come up to me that was doing a physio course and tell me he’s surprised I managed to exist around our TAFE. I told him to look up on where he had to do the testing, because it had been raining, and explained how I had to move around the three story building set up (well lower ground, ground and 1st floor, except the library that had an extra floor), cause most people didn’t think about that. But the thing I normally go for is joking about how much I’m chronically awkward in a wheelchair because I’m forced to be crotch height-
