@baueroutageofficial: The pitch most pitchers are missing isn't their best one. It's the one in the middle. I build every arsenal around three pitches, three speeds, and three movement shapes — all coming out of the same tunnel. Up-and-down looks like: fastball, gyro slider, curveball. Lateral looks like: sinker, cutter, sweeper. Fast. Mid-speed. Slow. The middle pitch is the anchor. Here's why it matters more than your nastiest stuff. First, smaller movement means it's easier to throw for a strike. In fastball counts when I need the zone, the mid-speed pitch gets there — and the hitter can't tell it apart from the fastball out of my hand. He's guessing on speed alone. That's where pitchers have the advantage. Second, once that middle pitch is working, I don't need to throw my curveball or sweeper for strikes anymore. I save the big breaker for two strikes and chase counts — moments when throwing out of the zone is actually the goal, because the hitter is already committed to swinging. A fastball plus a breaking ball is just two pitches. Add the middle pitch and it becomes a real arsenal. Most guys are one pitch away from being almost unhittable.
