@missjennianne: Because even if you're absolutely perfect, he might, on a whim, decide to absolutely wreck you to prove to another of his creations that you're loyal. Sure, the story says Job got more back, but at what cost?! #humanist #trauma #religioustrauma #exchristian #deconstruction
This post misunderstands the story. Job wasn’t punished for a “bet.” Scripture says “Job was blameless and upright” (Job 1:1), and the whole point is that suffering doesn’t mean God has abandoned you. Even in the worst pain, Job said, “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” (Job 2:10). His faith wasn’t blind — it was rooted in trust that God sees more than we do. The ending matters too. God restores Job and shows that Satan — not God — was the destroyer (Job 1:12). The message isn’t “God wrecks good people.” It’s that faith is real even when life collapses, and that God can redeem what’s been broken. People today still ask Job’s question: “Why do the righteous suffer?” The Bible’s answer is that God is near the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and that suffering never has the final word.

Remember God can't strike down evil people because of "free will" but will strike down innocent people to prove a point

And then people will tell you it all worked out because God gave Job more kids when it was all done. Ask any parent who has lost a child if another child makes up for that loss.

A bet that god and satan both knew god would win. They did it for the love of the game because they are both sadistic assholes according to the bible.

The real kicker is God doing it to prove to Satan the point that he would still serve without his protection. Satan was like, ok. You were right. God was like “yesss!” I really showed Satan. Uh sorry Job, here’s double for your inconvenience even though I already knew you would.

this story is actually a representation of all of us and what we go thru here on earth . that's what I believe .. but we have a job to stay faithful to the end trusting in Yahshua to never leave us and help us thru as long as we keep our faith and eyes on Him

It’s a morality tale, not a true story. These types of philosophical and theological stories were (and still are) popular ways to explore questions.

Job is a figurative story (maybe based on a true story with poetic liberties). Lesson is that bad things happen to all people, regardless of their moral quality, and that trust in God is better than understanding all the reasons bad things happen to us.
