He became widely known as the “Killer Clown” because he frequently performed at local events and children's parties dressed as "Pogo the Clown". While outwardly, Gacy was a respected Norwood Park Township businessman, a successful building contractor, and an active member of the local community and politics, he was secretly a predator who lured young men and teenagers to his home with promises of employment or money. In this 1992 jail house interview conducted by FBI profiler Robert Ressler, Gacy spends much of his time denying any involvement with the crimes. In doing so, he reveals how much he was driven by fame and a desire for power, explaining his political aspirations.
