@ukbackintheday2: If you grew up in the UK during the 1990s you’ll know that these shows made Saturday evenings worth staying in for… It was another one of those rituals that most of us took part in. You’d just had your Saturday evening Tea, which possibly included some crispy pancakes or turkey drummers (or if you were really lucky, a takeaway from the local chippy) and the whole family were gathering around the box for some quality tv time… They were all there, parents, siblings, grandparents, that auntie or uncle that wasn’t really your auntie or uncle… sometimes even the neighbours would come round especially, just to join in. There was a real sense of togetherness. These shows weren’t like the empty, soulless reboots that are broadcast today. These were the OGs. Whether it was trying to solve one of Roy Walker’s Catchphrases, avoid the Hotspots with Michael Barrymore, boo at Wolf on the Gladiators, or laugh together as a celebrity got gunged at Crinkley Bottom… it brought us all together.
