The three times rent thing makes sense, but it’s kind of backwards. We should ensure people have access to housing which costs 30% or less of their income. If a city fails to accomplish that, they need to make it easier to build high-density housing.

We should require all gamblers to buy a “gambling license” for $X. Then you can bet up to $X at a time. If you want the original $X you spent on the license, you can get it back at any time, but then you lose your gambling license.

sports betting apps and online gambling are definitely where I draw the line. if you don't have to physically make your way to the place to do the thing, you're literally preying on people's impulsivity. if you lose $2k and have to drive 2 hours home with nothing but your thoughts and the radio, you at least have time to build negative reinforcement

I hear you, but the alternative to needing to prove 3x rent is also predatory. Me trying to figure out why a family member needed help with rent and realizing the math didn’t math. Fortunately it was motivoation for them to get a better paying job with more hours, but the ability to aquire that was one part having already done some certifications and another part luck. The ability to keep their housing until the new job came through was by the grace of a large family that was willing and able float them for a time, which is also a privilege.

The only legal betting should be even odds with peers, and the only way a third party should be able to profit, is by providing the venue, flat rates only, no cuts. Poker is fine, but roulette and slots should be illegal. If you're betting on sports, it should be with peers only. I don't think it's possible to eliminate gambling as an industry, but we could make it non-predatory.

Three times?! So my friend and her partner just had to get a guarantor for their new apartment bc it required 45 TIMES RENT. They both have full time professional jobs. It's a 1-bed 1 bath.

the whole reason they put limits on rent is to protect landlords, not the tenants. if they make too little they could choose to invoke squatters' rights and become a year long problem.

I honestly wouldn't have that big of a problem with brick and mortar casinos that did an income check before each time you pull out chips. Fantasy sports betting, this insane online betting on arbitrary events, video games that are very obviously marketed to kids using loot crate mechanics, all of those need to go.
