Northern Pintail (Anas acuta) The Northern Pintail is a long-distance migratory duck. It breeds in the northern regions of Europe, Asia, and North America, especially in tundra and wetlands. During autumn, it migrates south to warmer areas such as the Mediterranean, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Central America. It prefers open wetlands, lakes, and coastal lagoons in winter. Pintails are known for their fast and elegant flight. Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) The Northern Shoveler migrates from its breeding grounds in northern Europe, Asia, and North America to wintering areas in southern Europe, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Central America. It travels mainly at night in flocks and chooses shallow wetlands, marshes, and lakes where it can filter food with its wide bill. Its migration depends strongly on water availability. Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) The Mallard is a partial migrant. Some populations migrate long distances, while others stay year-round if food and water are available. Mallards breeding in cold northern regions move south in winter to Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and southern Asia. They adapt easily to different habitats such as rivers, lakes, wetlands, and even urban ponds. Gadwall (Mareca strepera) The Gadwall is a medium-distance migrant. It breeds across northern Europe, Asia, and North America, then migrates south to milder regions such as the Mediterranean, Africa, the Middle East, and southern parts of Asia. Gadwalls prefer calm freshwater wetlands and lakes during winter and usually migrate in small groups.
