There was no country called Nigeria in the 14th century. The Portuguese arrived in the 15th century, but long before then, the Yoruba people had already been interacting, trading, and travelling with Arabs, Hausa, Ethiopians, Songhai, Mali, Ottomans, Egyptians, and others. Evidence of that are found in Timbuktu library. Many Yoruba were merchants, clerics before Europeans came.

When you talk about topics like this, you also need to be holistic in your approach. Your take does not address why the white people choosed to settle in Lagos. It’s a Geographical advantage, which is Lagos border with the Atlantic Ocean. The early dealings was purely on a Geographical advantage. Nigerian tribal relationships are already hangings, we need contents that will unite us at this critical time, rather than the opposite. Your caption for instance is not appropriate.
