I also think if your natural pH is a little different than most people’s you will pull a bit orangey. It also makes me have “spray tan smell” stronger than other people. I will use a pH balancing body wash the days prior and the days after and I always opt in to the pre-tan pH balancing spray and it’s taken care of orangeness and the smell!

I learned recently that bandaid residue sticks on your skin for quite a while, even if you exfoliate, and a spray tan will cling to that and become darker and it’s very hard to get off….ask me how I learned that 😭

Best at home tan if you don’t have the equipment is Bondi sands. Same idea though, you need to exfoliate like crazy before. You leave it on for like 8 hours, then rinse it off. It seems like it kinda stains your skin but idk if that’s the same as the spray tanner

Here for this- 10/10. I added tanning to my salon (just me working there and a pop up room) it lasted a bottle and then I stopped. It takes so much dedication to cleaning and prepping 😭

I get sprayed about every 2 weeks & exfoliate like crazy 24 hours before I get sprayed. Also big thing is to use moisturizer on your ankles, wrists, knees & elbows before getting sprayed!!

Life hack- pop the ordinary’s glycolic acid toner in a bottle, and spritz that on your body in the days leading up to doing your tan (and do the same when getting the last dead bits off)

This is a great lotion to use for spray tan prep bc it’s got the lactic acid - you know it’s good when it’s got a little burn to it if you’ve really scrubbed down in the shower before using.

well, I learned something today...as someone who has never even considered spray tanning, I genuinely thought the brownish tone was the tanner itself, like you got hosed down with brown that stained you/worked more like body paint. I had no idea there was dha reacting with your skin and that you wouldn't have color coming off and staining things after that day.

So I read somewhere at some point that using a non ph balanced moisturizer or body wash after you tan reacts to the DHA and causes the orange to happen. I’m not sure if that’s true because of course I prob read it while I was trying to sleep at night and never found it again. lol

You turn orange when you wear the solution for too long. Plus some people just have a warmer tone to their skin so it can pull more orange.
