USSD is still a terrible user experience even for people without smartphones in my opinion. Very hard to make a non confusing app for most people.

Definitely. Africa's Talking is convenient, but it's not the only option. Services like HelloDuty, Infobip, or local telecom aggregators can be more affordable, especially if you're building for a single country.
