This is just one of the onboard options, mostly used in older airliners. Some airlines use a centralized or decentralized gaseous oxygen system or a hybrid variant of the two. Example of this is the A380 due to its immense size. The B787 uses something called a “pulse oxygen system” which are smaller tanks shared among groups of seats, its more efficient and lighter.
