@ssk9academy: The biggest flex in my opinion is accepting the sacrifices needed to help your reactive dog get better. Dealing with reactivity is not easy. It can drain you emotionally and physically from the amount of work you’re putting in. So when people tell me how much time and effort they’re putting into training their reactive dog, that honestly impresses me more than anything else. There is a massive nationwide issue with reactive dogs right now and a lot of it comes from the lifestyles these dogs are living. We are taking dogs that were bred for stronger purposes, whether that’s herding, protection work, or high prey drive, and placing them into small city apartments where they spend most of their lives on leash with very little freedom to explore and engage with the world naturally. A lot of these dogs end up constantly wound up, overstimulated, frustrated, and reactive. For many dogs, a lifestyle change is necessary if we truly want them to thrive. That sacrifice might mean waking up earlier to drive to a park so your dog can run, explore, and train in a healthier environment. It might mean skipping a few social events to spend more time working with your dog. That’s hard to do, but trust me, your dog will be better off for it. You train hard now so you can enjoy the results later. So the next time you think about your dog’s reactivity, ask yourself this: are you making the sacrifices needed to help your dog get better? Because if not, you might be the one holding your dog back. 🖤🐾 #ReactiveDog #DogTraining #GermanShepherd #DogReactivity #BalancedDogTraining

What do you recommend for shy/timid dogs? My rescue LOVES other dogs but he is fearful of people and will hide or scrunch down when people come around even me. And he’s bonded to me such as sleeping right next to me..
