One day he suddenly stopped eating normally, became weak, quiet, and unlike himself. Then after just a day, he could barely stand on his own and started having difficulty breathing. I had to rush him to the hospital immediately, and we found out he was suffering from pulmonary edema — fluid building up in the lungs, making it hard for him to breathe. As a fur parent, seeing your baby fight for every breath is one of the most traumatizing and heartbreaking things you could ever experience. It drained me emotionally, mentally, and financially, but I would do it all over again for him. Please watch out for signs like: • sudden loss of appetite • weakness or hiding • fast or open-mouth breathing • difficulty standing or walking • unusual silence or low energy Cats are very good at hiding pain, which is why early signs are often missed. Regular vet checkups, monitoring their eating habits, hydration, breathing, and behavior can truly save their lives. If something feels off, don’t wait. Trust your instincts and seek veterinary care immediately. If there’s one thing this experience taught me, it’s this: our babies depend on us to notice the little changes before they become life-threatening.
