@whileyouwonder: 🗣️“Neurotypical people do that too.” Sometimes they do. BUT… there’s a few *buts*.. And there’s more differences between autistic stimming and other stims - hit follow and stay tuned for vids on those! For my deep divers👇 Nwaordu, O., & Charlton, R. A. (2023). These insights reflect common themes I’ve observed in clinical settings, assessment conversations, and client storytelling. It may not apply to everyone, and research is still catching up on a lot of this. ‼️ This content is for general education and shared understanding, it is not clinical advice or a diagnostic service.

i like putting smooth things on my lips 🥲 like the back of a pen or the top of my nails. I especially like rubbing my hair along my lips but people find all these things weird and think I'm putting stuff in my mouth and then think I'm even weirder when I tell them I'm actually just rubbing stuff on my lips 🥲 it does sound kinda weird tho so I can't complain really

I twirl my hair. I have for as long as I can remember. but my mom does too. so I am not sure it was a learned thing. and is now a terrible habit. I am trying to stop as it has damaged my hair. and find myself twirling my kids hair and it is so relaxing. I have debated being assessed.

I’ve been trying to calm my nervous system and learn to unmask. The other day I realised I was out in the wild blinking repeatedly, humming a tune on a loop while pacing back and forth with a spin/ twirl each time I turned. Out in the wild. F free range stimming. Stuff that’s usually kept to in my room once I close the door. I was out in the wild unapologetically just moving cause I needed to 🥺

this is so funny to me that you used the example of doing figure 8's with your hips as I was doing this not long ago before watching this 😭
