@nouraxexmail: A few days ago, we rushed to the emergency room because Rayan developed a fever. For most kids, a fever can be managed at home, but for a child who has had a liver transplant, it’s much more serious because his immune system can’t fight infections the same way other children can. What started as a fever quickly turned into something much bigger. When the nurses tried to access his port, the needle bent. I expressed that I wasn’t comfortable trying again, but I was reassured that someone with more experience would do it. Unfortunately, the second attempt also failed. It was scary to watch and heartbreaking for Rayan to go through. Soon after, the area around his port became badly bruised and infected. His body started breaking out in rashes, his stomach became swollen and bloated, and he was in so much discomfort. After days of fevers and pain, the doctors decided the best option was to remove his port through surgery. As a mother, watching your child go through one hard thing after another is exhausting and heartbreaking. Just when you think you’ve caught your breath, another challenge comes along. Alhamdulillah, surgery went well and Rayan is now recovering. Seeing him smile again and finally getting some relief is all I could ask for.
