@prettygrittytours: The Tacoma mall theater opened in May 1968 and was one of the most beloved theaters in the area. Located where Krispy Kreme‘s donuts is today, next to the Tacoma Mall. It operated until it was closed in 2002. #tacoma #History #explorewashington
Tacoma Mall Theatre had a 72-foot snack bar. The chandelier inflation over the last 50+ years, $6,000 in 1968 is roughly $56,000 today. but If they were taken down and put up for auction today, a realistic appraisal for the set would likely be $10,000 to $12,000 per chandelier. But in terms of historical equity and pure replacement cost, they are easily $50,000 pieces of living Northwest history hanging in Lakewood

I thought you meant the Lakewood Theater here in Tacoma, I didn't realize you meant California! I wish they were still local, such good memories of the Tacoma Mall Theater...

I went down a rabbit hole about the chandeliers and the Starlight theater. It seems the Starlight (located in Lakewood, California) is actually a twin to the Tacoma mall theater! It opened with the same chandeliers and is still intact today. However, at least one chandelier was saved from the Tacoma mall theater as there is one at the Showbox Sodo.

The Showbox bought a couple of the chandeliers. There is one hanging near the bar at Showbox Sodo

I saw E.T., The Goonies, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Ghostbusters there. It’s wild to think that back then that most theaters only played a couple movies. There was a movie theater in Parkland too near Pacific Ave and Garfield and another one in Lakewood on South Tacoma way near Steilacoom Blvd.

I did the first Dolby Stereo calibration there when I worked post production on "Top Gun". I had to watch that movie in that theater 7 times in 3 days. Good times! 😁

When I moved here in sixth grade from Nebraska, I went there to see Rocketman. I think it was the name of it. It was like a guy who went around on a jet pack, and when I walked in and saw those chandeliers, I legitimately thought I had moved to the richest neighborhood.😂

The best theater outside of Tacoma was the Weyerhaeuser Movies in early 80s what my sisters told me, by the time I was able to go late 80s, it was torn down 😢
