as a certified oil mechanic. please don't ever use an impact on your drain plugs. that's how you screw up your pants. and you could cross thread if you're not careful. more than likely what happened in this scenario is somebody use that impact waiting too hard and it dented around the plug which caused it to leak and that rubber gasket stuff that they pulled off that plug doesn't work. I repeat do not ever use a impact. always use wrenches or sockets by hand
