How do vou preserve a music piece like this? With a attraction of the same name, this is how Efteling ensures that this timeless piece of music by Saint-Seans is not to be forgotten. Even when the first version of this story had to be demolished due to the aging of the building, Efteling decided to create a second, completely new attraction in the same theme with the same music. Thats what music can do. Danse Macabre, preserved in the Efteling since May 1978

Because the E string has been tuned down, the violinist has to avoid it for the rest of the piece, playing it all on just the A, D and G strings.

playing this piece on the violin takes practise as well, due to the possibility that you have to change octaves and in the start even change the keys of all strings before and on some points even during the piece. i tried it once and it took almost half a year to manage and even than it was not perfect

The Efteling (A theme park in the Netherlands) also has a attraction with this classic number. First there was Spookslot (1978-2022) but now we have A replacement for it called: Dance Macabre (2024-now).

I played it in an accordion orchestra. Very beautiful piece. Sadly we no longer play the piece.

Saint-Saens, a close friend of Nadia Boulanger's father, and frequent visitor at 40 Rue Ballu, in Paris - had many stimulating discussions about his musical endeavors.
