@levyborukhlaw: Most people assume responsibility follows control. In New York City, that's not always the case. Imagine being held liable for damage caused by something you didn't install, can't remove, and often can't even modify without permission. Yet that's the reality many homeowners face. This isn't about avoiding accountability. It's about understanding that some laws place legal responsibility on people long before they realize the risk exists. The most expensive legal problems are often the ones nobody tells you about until it's too late. #NewYorkLaw #Homeowners #PersonalInjury #LegalAdvice #RealTalk
my grandmother wrote letters and emails to the city to fix her tripping hazard sidewalk, someone tripped and sued her, she showed the court proof of years of communication trying to get the city to repair, case was dropped

I donโt totally agree, If the damaged concrete is a public sidewalk caused by a city tree, the NYC Parks Department provides free repairs for qualifying 1- to 3-family homes through the NYC Parks Trees & Sidewalks Program

You can call 311 or file a complaint online with the city so they can do an assessment. The city has the power to fix the side walk free of charge. No set time table when the city will fix the sidewalk. At least itโs recorded you made a complaint.

Iโve done so many repairs on my sidewalk to avoid lawsuits. Itโs an absolute joke. Iโve never once heard back from my congressman or local assemblymen.

I lived in NY, it was easier for me to redo the sidewalk in front of my property to avoid a lawsuit than wait for the city to fix it, good thing I own a construction company I guess.
