I love Sylvia Rivera. She was my favorite icon to research. I remember giggling at this photo with my friends and thinking she was such an icon. This is my fav photo of her.

this speech in particular has always been the face of the queer movement to me. i wrote a paper on sylvia rivera in 5th grade after trying to find information on attendees of stonewall other than marsha p johnson. sylvia lived to old age. she died in 2005 after opening shelters for homeless trans people and continued to fight for queer liberation well into the early 2000s. they tried to boo her off of stage when she went up to speak. she had stated that she had spent most of the day at this event trying to speak and being stopped before coming to speak on the things she has lost. she deserves to have the light shone on her face for the things she’s fought for. she deserves the sunshine.
