Context from Nordic lore: The prophecy of Ragnarok was told it will start with Baldur’s death. So Freyja went around to literally every single thing and plea for it to not harm her son’s life. Well…almost everything, for who would believe a mistletoe could harm anyone. In fear of the prophecy, Baldur grew paranoid and feared leaving the safety of his home. It’s not until one of his brothers, Thor or Loki, convinced him to test his invulnerability, and thanks to Freyja, he was practically invulnerable and immune from almost everything. They were having a party as they tried to see who could hurt Baldur. Then Loki provided someone with an arrow, or a dart, that’s tipped with a sharp end made from a mistletoe. Baldur welcomed the projectile which then silenced the banquet hall.

freya spit in mimir's face becuz he came up with the idea of brokering a marriage between the aesir and vanir and that caused odin to gain more edge atop the vanir after learning the secrets of their magic and using it against them ... almost wiping them out completely save for freyr and his camp of vagabonds and the only one who was actually of the realm was freyr as birgir is essentially from midgard and the two elves were from alfhiem and lunda was from svartalfhiem also hildisvini's origins are unknown so basically they're extinct all because of that marriage
