Just got back from 21 days In Japan and Korea from LAX - advice on zipair - flight was totally fine but buy a 16oz ultralight Nalgene bottle before the trip ( cost like $5) Zipair charges for water in flight - so fill up after airport security and we used it everyday of the trip since Japan and Korea only provide literal shot glass sized water cups at restaurants.

BY THE WAY IF YOU DO THIS YOUR CHECKED BAG WILL NOT GO ALL THE WAY TO JAPAN BC ITS NOT ALL ON THE SAME RESERVATION SO PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WHEN BOOKING YOUR FLIGHTS THIS WAY SO YOU CAN HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO LEAVE, PICK UP YOUR BAGS, CHECK THEM AGAIN, AND GO THROUGH SECURITY AGAIN!! Or if you book on the same airline for both legs, let them know at the ticket counter at your airport of origin that you plan to go all the way to Tokyo and they might be able to check it all the way through to Tokyo for you depending on the airline

As someone that worked in the airline industry: this is a TERRIBLE idea. If the inbound airline on that separate ticket is delayed/canceled, you are completely and totally SOL on getting rebooked for the next flight. You will be paying immensely out of pocket for a last minute change or just not going on the trip at all. Don't do this. Just book on the same ticket. If you have to do this, dont book an unreliable airline for the first flight and give yourself at least a day of layover so you don't miss it.

prepare for super long layovers or unrealistic self transfers and checked baggage fees resulting in a similar price to a traditional airline, this only works if you dont need bags. north american flights seldom have affordable checked bags unless you have a credit card with an annual fee with them

I did this, and got a flight from LAX through Singapore air a lot cheaper than a flight from Houston in zip air 🙂

This does take a lot of time to coordinate but it does work. I did this to spend a day in Hawaii without any extra cost and instead saved money.
