BatCat ONLY works when they’re not together-together. Bruce’s true commitment is to his city, and Selina’s one true commitment is to the bag and the thrill of the chase. They can’t ever be a Peter/MJ or Clark/Lois style couple who builds their lives together.

Catwoman just works so well when she‘s her own character and not just batmans love interest. She has a lot of depth and her fully commiting to a relationship with batman just doesn‘t work that well for her character since she wouldn’t do that. The main reason she has a connection with batman is because she knows he protects her

My biggest problem with BatCat is that DC writes this relationship so horribly sometimes. Maybe I’m biased because I’m a Brutalia guy but a majority of the stories where their relationship is the center are pretty bad. Hush, Gotham War and Tom Kings entire run. We had a good thing going with Son of the Demon until Grant Morrison fucked it up.

As a HUGE Selina fan and someone who believes Batcat is Bruce and Selina’s best ship this is really interesting. I definitely agree that Selina’s character is phenomenal outside of Bruce and Batfamily stuff and that people don’t recognise it enough. I will say though, I doubt that if Bruce/Selina ever get together and stay together that DC would not let her do her own thing. Whilst I also have a serious lack of faith in DC’s ability to treat women right, Selina has always been independent and she’s in DC’s top five (last time I checked) most published women. She’s always going to be published, and as one of DC’s most revolutionary women I don’t think they would limit her to just Batman and the batfam. But I do understand the concern, if that ever happened I would be devastated.

Hold on lemme read this real quick and come back, my personal stance on it rn is I like if Bruce and Selina are together if it isn’t making Selina’s character only about being Batman’s hot love interest, if it takes her not dating Batman to be a good character then they shouldn’t be together but as of rn idk yet

i feel like batcat can be together and selina can still have her solo stuff. imo when it comes to these two, they don’t need to have a traditional relationship. like when writers/editorial try to separate selina from gotham (to get her away from bruce lbr) her stories always suffer as a result. like her current ongoing got SO much better and interesting the moment selina got back to gotham.

I respect your opinion and I’m not trying to argue, but if anything, Selina’s solo stories emphasise that she and Bruce are a perfect fit for each other. not that Bruce is essential for her existence, but the whole point is they compliment each other due to their similarities as well as the familiarity they share. they guide each other when they’re lost. Selina is technically part of the Batfamily, there’s no problem with her being associated with them often. this is very reminiscent of the “Nightwing is not allowed to exist outside of the Batfamily” argument. she also hugs a lion in heart of hush (a Batman story) so this isn’t exclusive to her solos😭she can very much go off on her own while with Bruce?? she has?? Barbara was with Nightwing for a good portion of bop and still allowed her own elaborate stories with non Batfamily characters. this point makes no sense. no love interest for Selina has ever compared to Bruce for the sole reason that he’s the one who cares the most, who encourages her to be herself when she needs it. Selina is going to have books while with Bruce. you don’t have to worry. Batman appears in Catwoman books for a reason, and vice versa.

I also really like how Selina is just… human, in a lot of Batman comics you’ll see him do incredible feats and Selina has done some too but she’s more human with it, if there’s something that is out of her league she has no problem in getting tf out and that’s why I like her, she knows her limits and her stories seem more human and relatable in a way.

The problem is that Catwoman is not the center of Batman books so everything about her revolves around him when she’s far more interesting in her own books. From Gotham war to the tynion run and 1000% in Kings run, Selina revolves so heavily around Bruce that she doesn’t get to shine as a character

I love Selina’s solo stories AND batcat stories so much. I read all the Jim Balent era solo Selina stories. Obsessed. But I eat all the batcat books up!!!! I love them !!!!

At first, I wasn’t really hearing you out until I realized that a lot of characters have had their roles or skills nerfed because Batman is around, or because writers constantly make them dependent on Batman all the time. And I think Dc really needs a new head of leadership for writers because you really do see a difference between old and new comics that have depth and interesting story telling
