@dr.matthew.parker: Four reasons I love being a Psychistrists: 1) My patients: Psychiatric patients are often some of the most empathetic and caring patients doctors can treat. It’s really a joy to watch these individuals improve during your time treating them. 2) Lifestyle: I love medicine, but I don’t love living to work. Long hours in hospitals, overnight shifts, and calls were not for me. 3) Flexibility: Psychiatry offers so many different opportunities to find your purpose. I always encourage experimentation and open mindedness when leaving residency. 4) Compensation: Without sounding gratuitous and crass, Psychiatrists can expect a great living based on demand, especially when you factor in that we don’t have the demands of a surgeon or hospital-based physician. I want to do this but I’m scared about the money, can I have a family and bring food to the table every week? And I want to help in the hospital and be in the OR and be able to stand next to a licensed doctor and help them about about patients. Would the be possible?
