Like so many I’m sad, we are very sorry for the loss of your children’s father. AND this is also true. He made no preparation for life events. Are strangers ‘supposed’ to prepare for their own life events and his too? No. If someone offers a donation, graciously accept a donation. Honor him by being dignified. Make a payment plan for the funeral expenses, like others do. That’s the dignified thing to do.

Times sure have changed. When my mom passed 5 years ago, with no money or insurance, my sister and I paid for it. We live paycheck to paycheck, but figured it out. We would never ask strangers to pay for our family members funeral bills. Parents should be mindful of this happening and leaving the burden on their kids, especially at their age. Best of luck. But I'd be teaching the kids how to pay for it, instead of teaching them to let others pay for it.
