The numerator goes up by 2 each time for 1/16s 1/8s & 1/4s …. 1/16, 3/16, 5/16, 7/16, 9/16, 11/16, 13/16, 15/16.. 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8 1/4, 2/4 (1/2).. 3/4 A tape measure is marked in 16ths of an inch. Each inch is divided into 16 equal intervals (sixteenths). ————— The smallest lines are 1/16. Medium lines represent 1/8 (which is 2/16). Bigger lines represent 1/4 (which is 4/16). ————— If you count the 1/16 marks, the odd fractions go: 1/16, 3/16, 5/16, 7/16, So you can see how the fractions build from the same 16 divisions.
