Olvi :
As someone with OCD, horror is and has always been my favourite genre. Horror provides me a SAFE environment to engage with what makes me tick in the WORST way. The comfort (for me) comes from being UNDERSTOOD in my fears, but also getting to engage with the scary themes with others consuming that same media.

The Shining example was so good! So true that I was horrified for Wendy and didn’t think twice about any of the other supernatural elements of the film.

I think it’s also because we can sit with the emotion of fear, without being in actual danger.

Maybe I’m being biased for saying this but horror is THE BEST genre. It’s fun, it’s creative and takes more time to produce and it’s so fulfilling

“Danger doesn’t always arrive looking dangerous.” I like that you synthesized everything so well. Extremely well put.

Horror also frequently has themes of resilience; the characters have to overcome something extremely difficult. I find it comforting 🖤

Another movie that proves your point in particular is Obsession. Also House terrified me as a kid.

There's research that indicates people who consume horror novels and films are more resilient than those who don't. I like to think that I've always recognized that on some level, so I watch horror for my mental health.
