@hitchcockhomestead: building a dream garden for our family of 6!! We love this hack for making budget friendly garden beds 👩🏼🌾 #garden #gardentok #gardening #homestead #homesteading
Why not just excavate the grass and plant directly in the ground?

I would get those beds off the ground. That is what makes gardening so much easier, less weeding and no sore backs.

We have a beautiful garden. Can I give you a tip? Put all the leaves, leftover grass clippings, wood logs, lots and lots of wood chips, and then compost. You want it to be really good dirt in the next few years. Less soil, more nutrients.

I’ve always done a layer of cardboard and old leaves that I’ve raked up under the dirt so it takes less dirt to fill and. It’s a mulch for nutrients

I would suggest removeing the barrier under your beds. it restricts the drainage and prevents the worms and microbes and all the other good life from getting into your garden beds.

Something that we have found.. weeds will just blow and land and grow in the mulch. The only way to avoid any weeds in your path is to not cover the plastic.. or just weed as they pop up. Just an fyi since I’ve already been there done that 😅

Do you have any recommendations on strawberries? I can't get mine to grow! They are just turning out as bushes! Or dying off!

Will take you 5+ years to recoup the money you spent on your set up. You can buy a lot of fruits and veggies for the price of a treated 2x6.

Next year, fill the beds with cardboards, sticks, leaves etc and then fill the other half or so up with soil, saves SO much money!

Make sure to remove the fabric week barrier in the actual garden beds themselves before putting down soil, otherwise it’ll be much too shallow and now drain well with raised beds that height😬

Broken up hay bales are good to put in the bed before your dirt as well!

Make sure to put some metal poles in middle of blocks or they can come loose
