It’s appropriate because you are asking the parents. So if they don’t allow it they will just respectfully say no. Don’t over think it you are doing the right thing!

You could also offer for one or the parents to go with you to chaperone if they’re not comfortable with the original idea!

I have a 8th grade daughter and I feel like it’s appropriate and you’ll be at the theater.

I think it’s appropriate if you’re there. Doesn’t hurt to ask them and if they draw a line then you know!

I do have a daughter and I have been raising her differently than I was raised. I was not allowed to date until I was 16 but that didn't stop me. I have been much more open with my daughter and she does have a boyfriend (she's also 17) but she has dated when she was younger. I don't think it's inappropriate. IMO it makes them sneaky if you're too strict. If anyone disagrees that's fine but that's just my opinion.

As a single 41 y/o w/no kids 🤭 I really think it’s appropriate, you’re being respectful enough to call and speak w/her parents first AND you’re going to be in the movie theater with them?! Girl you deserve a mom award!🥇🫶🏼

I don’t have a daughter but my youngest sister is 15 and I helped raise her.. if you were to approach it how you’re saying I think they would be fine. You being there with them could also help them be okay with it. Maybe if they aren’t okay with it leave it open to her mom to also join you guys. I think you and your son are both being respectful about it and that’s a big relief and shows you care.

I consider myself a kinda strict parent. I have a daughter and i don’t see anything wrong with the arrangement at all. Actually very mindful. Especially reaching out to the other parent. I like the idea that someone else mentioned of inviting the other parent(s). That’ll give yall time to get to know each other too!

I have a 14 year old daughter and I feel you are going about it the right way they are not trying to be sneaky and I think being open with her mom about joining as well would be a good idea.

I have a daughter going in to 8th grade. I’d be totally ok with it as long as you were there supervising. You’ll be there to watch the whole time. There’s nothing wrong with it. Totally ok! Now, they may feel differently but that just my opinion. You should ask!

As a girl and boy mom….. my answer would be no. 1 because they too young for an actual date. 2 because i don’t know you as the parent. For my son the answer would be no because your daughter isn’t about to blame my son for doing something. Maybe if the other parent came too but I’m still leaning towards no. Try a group date. Start there with other kids.

The worst thing that can happen is you ask the parents, they say no, and then you guys think of a different plan. Open communication is the key. No harm in asking the parents.

Just approach it in a nice way. Just explain to your reasoning. I’m sure she’ll explain as she’s a parent too

I think it’s appropriate the way you want to approach it, but every parenting style is different. Good luck and wish you the best. I think you are doing what is best for your son. The other parents will decide what is best for their daughter. 💕
