@dailymath94: Why does 0.999… equal 1? 🤯 At first glance it feels wrong. Most people instinctively think 0.999… should be just a tiny bit smaller than 1. But mathematics says otherwise. In this animation, we look at the idea from multiple angles: 🔹 A number line shows 0.9, 0.99, 0.999, 0.9999, and so on moving closer and closer to 1. 🔹 The distance between them keeps shrinking: 1 − 0.9 = 0.1 1 − 0.99 = 0.01 1 − 0.999 = 0.001 As the decimal continues forever, the gap approaches zero. 🔹 Then we use a classic algebra proof: x = 0.999… 10x = 9.999… Subtract: 9x = 9 x = 1 Since x was defined as 0.999…, that means: 0.999… = 1 The key idea is that there is no real number between 0.999… and 1. The infinite decimal is simply another way of writing the same value, just like 1/2 and 0.5 represent the same number. Many paradoxes in mathematics come from the word “infinity.” Our intuition is built around finite processes, but infinite processes can produce results that seem surprising at first. This is one of the most famous examples because it challenges what feels obvious and forces us to think more carefully about limits, infinite series, and how numbers are represented. If this surprised you, you’re not alone. Even people who enjoy math often argue about this the first time they see it. Do you think 0.999… = 1, or does it still feel like it should be slightly smaller? #fyp #viral #math

Infinitely close to 1, never quite reaching it. This is like saying you will eventually reach the end of the hallway if you keep splitting the distance in half

X=0.999999… 10x= 9.999999… 10x-x=9.99999…-0.99999… 9x = 9 x = 1 Simple. They are the same thing, but that’s simply because some recurring numbers, such as 0.99999… are mathematically impossible.

People are so quick to deny this but won’t consider the fact that because infinity is introduced literally in the term 0.999.. they’d have to assume that infinity works like a normal value, but it’s not. If you think of it like a function that approaches a certain value, 1 is totally an acceptable answer. Of course that’s ignoring fractions like 1/3 lmao
