@thesoberscoop: The way this isn’t even that bad…. But living in a constant mess weighs on me a lot. I have to find a way to be better. The hacks help, but they’re not the end all be all solution :( #adhd #adhdtips #adhdtiktok
Mam’ this makes you MORE of a trustworthy source and we love you for it 🫡 💕

remember when you're creating systems you're not trying to find the perfect system and adhere to it 100% of the time and you're a failure if it doesn't work. it's okay if the system only works for you for a few days or a few weeks or a few months. that removes friction and removes pressure if only for a short time.

This is so me! Hiring a house cleaner to come once a month has been LIFE CHANGING for me! It forces me to pick up my whole house before she comes, and helps prevents the messes from getting even bigger and lingering. I know it’s a privilege to be able to pay for a cleaner but I work a second job to be able to afford it. I’d rather do my side job than clean lol

I saw a video about blasting music on headphones while filming a timelapse of yourself cleaning or doing a task. During breaks you can’t go pick up your phone because it’s recording. Even if you’re by yourself, it feels like you have a body double. Then when you’re done instead of scrolling reels or TikToks you watch the timelapse and see the progress you made. With ADHD it’s so hard to remember what things looked like before so it feels like you spent a bunch of time doing nothing; the timelapse kind of counteracts this. I’ll see if I can find the original creator who gave me this idea. But to be honest I did it twice and it worked amazingly and I haven’t done it since. I’d love a groupchat or something where ADHD’ers post the timelapses of themselves doing tasks they’ve been putting off or even daily cleaning to hype each other up and get motivated. Thank you for keeping it real and bringing folks together in an authentic and open way 🫶🏻

something that helped me: “it’s okay if your house looks like someone lives there”. Then I tidy everything at night and i treat it as a “closing shift”, preparing for the next day.

My therapist told me that adhd is a lifelong battle rather than a fixable problem and i need to set my expectations accordingly because sometimes during periods of doing well i feel like i have it all figured out and i’ll never revert again and i can start doing a face routine, read a book, exercise and even cook a balanced meal for myself daily but then one thing happens and im back in the hole. It is rather a lifelong battle but it can get easier to dig ourselves out of the hole with therapy coping skills, especially like all these lil tips you are sharing

progress over perfection dear. I struggle with this every minute too.
is it a flawed expectation?
can reality be -- that it'll never be clean and done? but instead a lifestyle of where you're clean and tidy 50-80% of the time?

You live in your home. It looks cozy and normal. My one rule is the kitchen has to be clean before I can go to bed. That’s so if I die in my sleep people will know I kept a clean kitchen 🤣😆

Immediate follow. People also don’t know how hard it is to have ADHD and how much of a burden it can be.

I've learned with my ADHD I am a very type C person. I have super organized systems for certain things and chaos for others. its ongoing battles between paralysis and the want/need for projecting some type of control.

Warning of caution, as someone with ADHD and Anxiety. My ADHD struggles made me constantly feel like I needed to find or improve systems and routines to be able to function better. That turned into severe OCD. I started spiraling and having daily panic attacks because I became so obsessed with trying to "fix" myself. So please just take time for yourself and remember, you might want to help others by sharing things that have helped you, but you don't owe us anything! Don't stress yourself out over strangers on the internet. ❤️

Have you ever heard of Jenna Free and her ADHD podcast? She’s a therapist specializing in ADHD regulation work, which addresses that “wtf is wrong with me why can’t I keep up” feeling. I still struggle but have noticed a huge improvement since practicing her stuff. Highly recommend!!

I adore your honesty. Tho my heart hurts that you’re overwhelmed by your own existence. I watch a lot of adhd content cause my friends are, it helps me understand their povs. Tho I’m pure tism and mine is the kind where I tweak out if things aren’t put away. If my space is messy, I’m in burnout. I’ve found that getting my friends to put on their outside shoes helps them be able to clean/ organise. It’s not abrasive. It’s natural and their mind and body agree that it’s time to do a job. Parallel play also in the sense you’re talking on phone to someone in designated ‘cleaning time’ or even listening to podcasts during that time. FaceTime could work, tho then you may get anxious of being perceived and that’s overwhelming too. An ‘organised mess’ is also a default for a lot of them and I don’t think that’s something to critique or criticise. It is just a different system. I have other observations and things I do to help regulate them, tho I don’t want to ramble too much here 🫶🏼

I feel this so deeply. I always get it cleaned up but why does it get messy so fast? And why does it feel impossible to get done until you do it and realize it didn’t take that long? But it feels that way every single time… It’s truly exhausting
