one of my "hot takes" about these fun romances is that people should continue to read them if it makes them want to read. yes a lot of them have zero genuine substance but we have a literary crisis atm and these fun reads can allow a lot of people to transition to reading books that make you think. like are they good books? no but I like to think of them as like those beginning chapters books we used to read as kids

the acotar series is so good!!! it’s so addicting (especially the second book) and it’s the perfect mix of magic, romance, love, action, and fantasy

it’s giving books that r instant gratification if that makes sense, like it just is what u want to read abt it but doesnt make you feel or think more deeply abt it

right like literature is subjective but u should engage in things that make u think, but it’s okay to want a light read

I agree with you completely because most of the times these romance books don’t explore nuanced perspectives but are rather just a fun, easy read. I think that’s why the BOT series got so popularised because it has more depth than what you would expect from a romance. This is why I love switching up between a playful romance and a heartwrenching fantasy book because those etch themselves into my soul

Coming from BOT I couldnt finish Off Campus 🤷♀️the writing and romance, in my opinion, didnt match the emotional and thought provoking plot from bot

Sometimes I feel like these books are what make the best TV adaptations because there’s a chance to explore more nuance or change things up without fundamentally altering the story too much. Whereas some really fantastic books get turned into shows and movies that you’re just destined to be disappointed by because the book was so good on its own. Obviously not always the case but I do find it interesting!

yes i fully agree like i think abt this a lot, reading good books are definitely good for people and are helpful to expand ur perspective and knowledge plus vocabulary but its also perfectly fine to read a light romance that’s just enjoyable to read. i always read romance books in between my heavy good books. as long as people are reading yk

thats how i feel about most 2000s ya literature lol the books often have addicting characters for the guilty pleasure or glamorous tropes but the books rather lack substance or feel like smt to amuse a 12 year old 😭
