The narcosis is real. It hit me at 40m during dive master training. It was wonderful, I was talking to fish, convinced they could understand me and I could stay there and live with them. It passed suddenly after ascending to 35m. I only hope these divers where in that happy place til the end. I've heard some are convinced they can breathe water. Without narcosis these divers would probably have died of oxygen deprivation and not drowning.
