I love this! Here in the States, that's definitely our convention schedule. We have DragonCon at the start of September and that's definitely the big week of stuff to look forward to for so many of us. There are a lot of smaller cons throughout the year that balance that out.

I feel like the thing this offers over just doing one of these things with friends is if it's all you can eat so people feel comfortable trying different things... but there's usually always something happening in big cities like -looks at notes- Melbourne?
