In June 2002, the Lagos State Government commissioned the first phase of the Network of Roads in Lekki Peninsula Scheme II, a project designed to unlock the enormous residential, commercial, and economic potential of the peninsula. At the time, many parts of Lekki were still sparsely populated, with vast stretches of undeveloped land, sandy roads, and ambitious plans for the future. The road network provided critical infrastructure that would lay the foundation for the rapid growth that followed.
