After seeing thousands of headache patients, here’s what I genuinely wish more people knew: 1. Migraine is more than just a headache. It’s a neurologic disease involving changes in brain signaling and sensory processing. The pain is just one part, nausea, light sensitivity, brain fog, and fatigue are all part of it. 2. Not all headaches are the same. Migraine, tension type, cluster, cervicogenic, IIH… they can feel similar, but the treatment is completely different. That’s why getting the diagnosis right matters. 3. Treat early = better results Waiting until the pain is severe makes medications less effective. The earlier you treat, the better your chances of stopping it. 4. If your meds aren’t working, something is off. It could be the wrong diagnosis, wrong dose, wrong timing, or even medication overuse. Most people were never taught how to actually use their meds correctly 5. Overusing pain meds can backfire Frequent use of OTCs or triptans can lead to medication overuse headache, where the treatment actually perpetuates the cycle. 6. Preventive treatment isn’t a last resort. If headaches are frequent or disabling, prevention can significantly reduce how often they happen and how severe they are. You don’t have to wait for it to get worse. 7. Lifestyle matters more than people think. Sleep consistency, hydration, caffeine habits, and skipped meals can all play a role. Small changes here can make a big difference. 8. Your symptoms are real A lot of patients feel dismissed. If your headaches are affecting your life, they deserve a proper evaluation and treatment plan. You don’t have to just live with headaches. And you don’t have to figure it out alone. 📌 Save this so you don’t forgetand send it to someone who needs it. #migraine #headache #chronicillness #headacheguru #neurology
