College professor here. More and more of us are reverting back to pencil and paper exams. Even so, READING skills have decreased dramatically. Many students SKIP or skim directions before attempting assignments/assessments. You are spot on!

Scary but not surprising. We had calculators but weren’t allowed to use them — not because the tool was bad, but because they wanted us to develop our built-in tool first: our brain.

My kid is ending 3rd grade. I’m 32. Grew up in the 90’s. Graduated high school in 2012. GET RID OF CHROMBOOKS AND COMMON CORE MATH. My kid gets the regular math I teach her but cannot understand common core at all. She told me her NYS TESTING was ONLINE. wtf????? Bring back paper and pencils. Bring back regular math!!!

Sweden has done a 180 in this and gone back to basic pen and paper in schools, tech is still used by the older students but it’s been (or about to be) cut off completely at the lower age groups!
