100% I totally felt this with the ballad of fallen dragons in the moonfall series. The author took her sweet time and I’m glad for it. I’d rather wait for a good book than to read a mediocre rushed novel because the industry pushed the artist too fast.

Case in point: The Hunger Games was published in 2008. The most recent book in that series, Sunrise on the Reaping, was published March of 2025. Great work takes TIME.

Agree!!! And “The Help” was such an amazing read and story. It was incredibly emotional and thoughtful book. It stayed in my brain for MONTHS after I finished it. When we try to mass produce, art becomes watered down and formulaic.

I've been working on my debut novel for nearly two years now. I've been told by others on tiktok that it's way too long for a book. I'm not interested in mass producing mediocrity. If I'm going to write something I'm going to make certain it's perfect, and most importantly, that's it's good.

Jodi Piccoult is one author that is pretty consistently writing great stories, but she isn’t churning out two novels/year. She also takes ideas from current events to create her stories, so her books are all very different.
