The folks on this thread saying to use other knots don’t get what a snell knot is used for. It keeps the the hook in a straight line with the fishing line. That is important for circle hooks specifically since you don’t “set the hook” but just reel down on the fish. It helps with the hook up. I only use snells when using circle hooks

Don’t think I’ve ever used this snell; it looks like it would work fine for mono up to, say, 12-15# test, but that it might slip with big mono or braid/superlines
